Another project in the works

Dang! That is a beautiful piece of art. Very, very nicely done. I had no idea that end grain could look so great.

Mostly side grain. And thank you.

Latz, very nice work! Someday I will have to come over and see your collection. I have some interest in building stave drums but have not had time to really look into it yet. So for now its the simple life of veneer, lol! The segment drum construction is relatively new to me, I had not notice them until recently. Very cool as well, still out of my league for now.

Jeff, you are more than welcome any time. In fact, I have a project I'd like to get a quote on from you. We need to be sure to touch base In Chicago. Funny, we're only 2 hrs or less away from each other and here we'll both drive to Chicago to meet up… Anyway, segment is not hard and I'm sure you can do it. Staves are even easier.

Didn't mean to hijack either, back to business as usual...

No problem, there is nothing to new to report on my progress anyway. And ya, I am planing on going to the show so we will have to talk before it happens.

Hope to get some veneer on the shells tomorrow but today its all cabinet work, bummer!

Thank you!

I reckon what you were heading for in post #31 (Page 4), will be hard to top.. but how about a pic of a dampened sample...

Cheers

Jeff, with that veneer, it actually doesn't matter which way you go, stain or no stain. Either way, that kit is going to look spectacular.

Too many great drums to list here!

I have applied some water to the veneer, it looks good but could be better I think. That pic in post # 31 is nice but I'm not shooting for that color in particular, It was the grain that I was showing everyone. One problem I have is this kit will take just about every square inch of my veneer, so I don't have much to play around with.

I will wet that snare veneer and take a pic for you.

Well the orphans are officially a family now, still have one more drum to do but its not here yet. I have enough veneer left over to do one side of each bd hoop, so I might give that a go.

Also, a bad pic but her is a shot of my snare bed. I made it 1/8" tall and 6" wide. So now the stain or no stain decision must be made.
