Ralf, I found the post. On 03-10-2011, under the title Bolero Drums, by salty 1322, you mentioned that Boleros were "definity a Star brand". Mikey and John were also in agreement. Please clarify, my friend. Thanks.

Is there a Bollero kit for sale here somewhere?
Hello,
I guess that some confusion is coming up concerning the badge 'Bollero'.
It is true that obviously two badges were on the market in the early 70s:
one from STAR and one from Pearl. Both sets were different on the hardware
(and the badges as well), so that they could be differed by this way.
I'm still eager to have a close-ip pic at this badge here, please ...;)
Ralf
Yes,I have seen two different Bollero drum badges. I have also seen more than two different Star badges...same company, different years. The Bolleros that I described in my original post, are identical in badge and hardware to what was affirmed by many as a Star line. What gives? Just curious.
Long story short: all oval badges with the additional 'World's supreme quality' wording are considered to be Star's.
If oval badge with the brand name only: maybe Star, more likely Pearl - depending on the shape of the hardware.
As always, there's an exception: the 'Bollero'-badge. This one (see below) is the one of the Star-family and it's not oval - and states 'Finest quality'.

Hi,Nice, very nice. Can you, please, make a close-up pic of the badge for us? Are the hardware parts (hihat, cymbal stands and bd pedal still genuine and in place?Ralf
Here's a pic of the badge. I doubt very much that the hardware parts are "original" to the set.....could be but I don't believe so.

Yep, several stencil names were made by both Star and Pearl, such as Apollo, Stewart, and obviously Bollero. In fact, some names were used by Pearl first, then Star, then Pearl again. I think that Zim-Gar was one of those names, possibly Stewart as well. My guess is that it was all about which of the two manufacturers gave the importer the better deal (until Star bowed out of the game to start Tama, of course.)
It just goes to show you that when it comes to MIJ, there's basically nothing in a name. You have to look at the smaller clues - lugs, ft leg mounts, rack tom mounts, bass t-rods, etc. And anything could have happened over the years to these drums in terms of modding or swapping out parts, so you have to have a really keen eye to determine what's original when trying to figure out the manufacturer.
Think i,ll try again..Is there a Bollero kit for sale in this thread???
Thanx Drumsteroo, for the close-up pic of that badge. Cool. Makes it clear to me that this is a Pearl's Bollero.
@Wayne: sorry, I don't have one to sale, but which Bollero? Pearl's or Star's? ;)
