An interesting Premier Snare

I managed to identify this snare from the pages of this very forum (thanks Jon Petersen). The model is PD6021 and it came as part of the Powerhouse 6500 kit from 1974/75 in America.

What's interesting is it's an 8 lug version of the Beverley Cosmic 21/Premier35. These were a very good copy of the Ludwig 400 so I guess that makes this a very good copy of the Acrolite but chrome plated. It is aluminium but the chrome is near flawless. It's a further example of Premier's superior chrome plating.

The drum has a date stamp of Dec 1974. The hardware differs from the 21/35 in that it has a Hi-Fi strainer and a simple butt. The badge is tiny, more like you'd see on a much earlier Premier drum. It's just riveted on but there is also a vent hole on another panel.

Worth keeping an eye out for as they can be had quite cheap. However, I reckon they will be fairly rare.

A great find Andrew - and in great shape too. Actually, it looks like the Cosmic 21 in every respect except the badge. Here's an old pic of mine, you'll know what I mean.

That snare sounds fantastic, you'll love it.

Andrew, so THAT is really the snare that would go with this set? I'm looking for one. Thought a 5X14 HiFi was the one that went with this set. What do you know? Dean

Is it a Powerhouse kit Dean? The PD6021 is what it comes with in the Catalog. It looks like the Resonator came with a Hi-Fi. http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/premier_drumsets_1975.htm

I'm sure there was some mixing and matching going on.

I've seen a couple of PD6021 snares on ebay in the last few months. I'll let you know if I see another.

From what I've learned here on VDF, I believe it's a US Powerhouse but unlike your catalog example, has the tri-lok hardware and never had a snare....so I bought one of those gazillion-made Premier 5 1/2 x 14 student snares from the 80's cheap and that's what we used with the set....tell me more.....d.
