Good afternoon all -

I'm looking to buy a new laptop & am curious about recording platforms for APPLE & other non-Apple computers.

Thank you for any comments!

Presonus Studio One seems to be getting some good press as far as bang for the buck goes.

I loooove Ardour, and that's coming from someone who's engineered in world-class facilities. It's a free download to check it out and see if it meets your needs.

... and if you're using a Mac, check out CuBase LE4. Excellent, full-featured recording/editing program.

Too many great drums to list here!

I use SONAR, but most of the DAWs you'll find are of very high quality. For Mac there is Apple's Logic, which is very popular. Lots of people use Reaper as well, which I believe is for PC and Mac. Your most important choice will be your sound card. RealTek and other standard sound cards are going to give you latency (unwanted delays in your recordings.) Some nice speakers will be a must as well.

Good luck.

Wow, did I say Ardour?! I meant Reaper. Ardour's okay, but Reaper is tops for me.

Studio guy at the local Sam Ash recommended Reaper to me as well.
