The teardrop series had a very small footprint after striping off the trim. the lug is very small and the mounts were all small and the same as the BD. The older the better. Peoples complaints about drops is always that they are so thin and easy to warp. They had floating heads so there is no hoop or headring contact. You could find kits with knob/tube lugs but together that combination lug is heavier than a drop lug or even the small Ludwig lugs. But Ludwig had big mounts and tube lugs are heavy.
SONOR always went over the top with quality and engineering. It`s their trademark so to speak. The inside of a SONOR is always as presentable as the outside.
Just my opinion on the quality of the shell and trim. The larger, heavier stuff seems to solve a lot of shaking issues.
For freefloaters, you could go back to the teens and twenties and find SONOR free floating BD, snare trap combo`s. There rope drums from the 18`s could be considered free floaters too, but that`s a stretch.
