Ajax w/Leedy lugs?

Loading...

I've been offered this 1930s Ajax 6.5 drum, that evidently is one of the few solid shell drums from the UK from that era. But my vintage drum guru tells me it has Leedy lugs. Is this commonplace? I love the looks of the drum, it's got double strainers and is supposed to sound excellent. Should I be concerned? The seller has been very trustworthy and gracious in past dealings.

Thanks.

Stephen

These are the original lugs to the New Century. There was some connection to Leedy but I am not sure what it was. Leedy ,at the time, unusual to American drums ,sported slot type t-rods. Perhaps, Leedy was getting their lugs and rods from Ajax?

Thanks for the reply. As long as the lugs are original to the drum, that's all I needed to know. Does anyone know how much a drum like this would fetch? It appears to be in pristine condition.

Thanks again.

That's a difficult call-----especially in N.A. ,where there is limited appreciation for anything but the familiar. I've seen drums like this one, or similar from different makers being sold for 5 or 600 but I don't know if they sold. If it is truly pristine, then the shipping cost becomes less of a concern and there may be interest on it's home turf. Check out ,similar drums on the web and see what they sold for -----that should give you a starting point.

I think the whole issue starts with 1) how pristine is it 2) can you photograph it in such a way as to provide assurance of it's condition. Those are the first two chips.

The drum is not for sale to any other buyers. It's mine if I want it. The same seller sold me a Premier Dominion Ace from the '30s that was immaculate. So I'm satisfied it's in the condition that he says it is. We'll probably do a trade, so I'll come out on the good end there, as he'll be paying high postage to send it, and high customs on the receiving end.

Thanks.
