Ajax Snare

Loading...

Hello,

I recently discovered during a house clearance a complete set of Ajax/Rose Morris snare drum lugs, 16 in total and some suprisingly high quality hoops. However there was no shell to be found much to my dismay.

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on how likely i am to find an original Ajax shell and if so where to look. I dont mind having to restore the shell if its poor quality however i have no knowledge of the general availability of Ajax drums.

I would rather not frankenstien together these lugs and hoops with another shell if possible but i have no real experience of buying vintage drums.

Thanks for any advice you can give,

Neil

I'm not sure what the connection between Rose-Morris and Ajax is. Rose-Morris was the rebranding of John Grey drums by the parent company Rose Morris,in the early 70's. Ajax was a brand of Boosey&Hawkes and they ceased drum production in 1970. If you posted pictures of the lugs and hoops, it might help identify what you have.

Yeah,

I think you two entities tangled up.

Ajax = Boosey Hawkes

Rose Morris=John Grey

There is lots of good info on John Grey (Rose Morris) here:

Boosey Hawkes and most of the UK companies:

There's an English forum out there:

You should place an add in their 'Classifieds' section, too.

Hello guys, i really appreciate your responses they have helped me alot. I understand that Ajax and Rose Morris were two independant organisations however they were the two english drum manufacturers that i was able to associate with the lugs and hoops based on a brief internet search. I know im a complete amature when it comes to this i am really just here to sponge off your collective expertise.

Thanks again,

Neil.
