Ajax Drums first appeared in 1927 made by Hawkes & Sons in London. In 1930 Hawkes merged with Boosey & Co to become Boosey & Hawkes and they continued making Ajax Drums until 1970 when they ditched the brand and marketed/distributed the Premier made Beverley brand.

During the 50's and 60's Ajax were second only to Premier in the UK in terms of endorsers and sales, they were popular with jazz players and many of the new rock players. Most UK players by the early 60's were playing Premier and when Ringo came along, they soon defected to Ludwig. At the same time, B&H did a deal with Rogers to make 'English' Rogers using Ajax shells and a combination of original Rogers hardware and parts sourced in the UK.

When the Rogers arrangement finished in 1966, Ajax was facelifted and the American looking Ajax Nu-Sound range was introduced, but this was no match for the onslaught of US made brands and drum production ceased.

B&H also made Edgware and Stratford Drums during the 50's which were 'budget' versions of Ajax but cosmetically, looked almost identical.
