Ajax Drum Kit (pics)

Loading...

Hi all, im looking to find any information i can about this ajax drum kit i have acquired. Does anybody here know anything about these kits?

Ive made the assumption the floor tom is from a different kit as the lugs are different and it is a single headed drum. The inside of the rack tom is finished in white while the bass drum is not. Im also unsure if the spurs ( or what i assume are the spurs, the were in a bag) are not the originals? Any information is greatly appreciated.

The drums have had the wrap stripped . I suspect but don't know for sure, that the mahogany veneer is a later addition. -----don't recall ever seeing mahogany as an option for Ajax.

The floor tom is not an Ajax. I think perhaps a Carlton.

Hi and Welcome!

The tom holder bracket (at the bass drum) and the tom bracket (at the rack tom) are not genuine, but obviously 'Swiv-o-matic' = lateron added hardware made by Rogers.

Oh - and the bracket for the spurs is also a modified 'Swiv-o-matic' tom holder bracket?!

And there seems to be one (or more) lugs missing at the rack tom. Those lugs are rare.

The floor tom could be a stripped Premier/ Olympic drum (if those 'Speedboat-lugs' tell the truth).

Hope you didn't pay too much for this lot ...

The Swivo parts could have been put on in the factory as a special order. Ajax had the parts. Perhaps dealers , who sold presumably , both Ajax and English Rogers could offer a choice of hardware. As far as the Mahogany goes, Eddie Ryan might know whether they built such shells to special order.

No, i payed next to nothing for it from a charity shop. Ive actually sold the cymbals and stands that came with the kit so i am actually up on the deal now. I just cant decide what to do with the shells.

"Mahogany Wood" as a wrap was an option on Ajax Nu-Sound, although the shells were birch.

However, there are a few things that don't look right. The fact that the floor tom wrap matches the other drums but is a different make for starters.

Do I see extra holes where the bass spurs are that don't continue into the wrap? Could be a re-wrap and the spurs switched out for swiv-o-matic.

The inside of a Nu-Sound although birch is usually stained mahogany.
