You could make these much sturdier by concocting a memory lock to augment the adjustment screw,so it wasn't really carrying the weight of the drum.The screw would only keep the spur from falling OUT-not rotating.

hmm that is strange! these spurs must have been replaced at some point then,you would never tell!
Had another thought. In the late 60s Premier took over manufacture from B&H (probably from mid 67 or 68) before Ajax finally disappeared in 1970 . At this time Premier/Olympic parts start to appear on Ajax sets. You may well have a late one. Are there any serial numbers stamped inside the shells?
hi all thanks for the replies.it has those stubby little disapearing spurs beloved of english drum makers,sadly they are worse than useless and anything more than tea dance work will send the bass drum flying.i was wondering apart from drilling and fitting modern spurs what else is there to do.i will try that cowbell post thing though
