Did you try laying a rag on the drum soaked with the adhesive remover?

Yep, the thing putting me off from getting the Xylene was it only came in a gallon can for $19.

Then I bought a can of 3M for $15, and the main ingredient was Xylene.....

So stupid of me !

So, I'll go back and get the Xylene next time.

Yep, the rags were better, and soaking an area first with a rag helped too.

All the advice from your PMs were spot on mate !

I have all but about a square foot done now, and the finish is still intact.

I like the look of a mahogany exterior a lot, and I'm looking to build a Krupa Deluxe around this drum.

I forgot one extremely important thing thing. lay the chemical soaked rags out flat to dry somewhere. If you wad up rags soaked with a extremely flammable liquid and drop them in a bucket or something, spontanious combustion can occur. This is no joke! Happened to my garage once. A pretty good fire happened. My neighbor called me at work and said "marc I dont wanna alarm you, but your house is on fire and the fire dept are there putting it out"

I hauled ass home as fast as i could go. True story y'all!

Wow, just by luck, that is how I treated them. I didn't want to put them straight into a bag cause I thought they would just eat through it while they were still soaked, so I put them in the sink to dry out a bit before I threw them away out in the dumpster later on. Thanks for the heads up, I may have done it differently next time. I keep my old coffee cans around for putting smelly rags, used NeverDull wads, and polishing cloths in, and put the lid on to keep down the funk when I'm using stuff like that.

I'll not be doing that with any flammable stuff from now on.....
