Adufe Drum

Loading...

I recently acquired a square ( 12x12 inch) Adufe drum from Potuagal. It is made of maple with calfskin heads. I removed a corner of the top head and removed the five small square pieces of wood that give the hand-held drum it's "rattle" effect. Next, when the head was re-fastened, I placed this old drum on a snare stand, miced it and incorpoated it into my kit just for fun. This old drum booms out like a native tom-tom in a pow wow! I won't use it often but, it sure gives a cool effect on some songs!

Has anyone had any experience with these drums? What did you think?

As always, thank you very much.

give us some pics to see what it is, please.

I think it could be a deep marching drum. I had one on my set, but I didn´t feel comfortabl with it. It is very special, maybe as an effect drum useable.

Hi, Marc. Thanks for reponding. I forgot to mention (my fault) that the drum is only about two inches deep. I wish I could send pictures but, cameras, computers and I just don't get along. I usually try to be accurate in my descriptions but, this time, not so much. Thanks for the interest though!

Brian, never mind.

Is it like this?

2b honest I would be afraid beating them with a drumstick ;-)

No, never tried...but I expect an unusual sound.

Hey, Marc! Bingo!!! That's the drum! Thanks so much for posting the picture. I was reluctant to use a stick as well but, when I saw how thick the skin was, I decided to give it a try...no harm. What I think I might do though is put it on a snare stand and let one of the singers try it out with some very light mallots or steel drum sticks. Occassionally this lady uses bongoes and some cowbell to good effect. Thanks again, Marc! I really appreciate the picture and interest.
