Acquired a set of sonorlites, need some advice

Loading...

[Attachment: 73010]Awesome site, everyone seems to really know their stuff. New to the forum so go easy on me.

Recently acquired a sonorlite kit in metallic blue lacquer, I believe it's an 80s model. The place I rescued it from had it tossed in a corner gathering dust and didn't have a clue. Only thing is it's in a bit of a state.

I've managed to reassemble pretty much all of it. Miraculously all the lugs and drum hardware is all there and relatively good condition after a bit of TLC. However the lacquered shells have taken bit of a beating cosmetically so look a bit crap.

The kit is as follows:

20" bass drum

10" rack tom (+Tom arms)

12" rack tom

15" floor tom

14" snare (I believe it's an LD 547 but not sure what variation)

Gota say I've really fallen for the sound of it but I have a couple questions:

1. Kit sounds great but doesn't look as good as it sounds plus one of the bass drum hoops is pretty beaten up. Was thinking of re-lacquering all the shells. Am I going to completely devalue the kit in doing so?

2. Any one got any idea what the kit might be worth in its current state?

Will try stick a few picks up in the meantime

Cheers

Dave

cheers man, Ive been very careful in cleaning up the kit as to not damage any of the hardware. I run a studio and had a bit of time today to get the kit set up and record some samples. cant see a date on the inside, but will have a proper look on all the drums. As requested a few more pics, will get some samples up as soon as i can.

Any ideas on how to restore that beaten up lacquer to its former glory?
