ABBA - (lack of) cymbals

I forgot to take my cymbals to a gig recently. Nobody had any in the small town we were playing. So I got a buddy to drive all the way to the gig with my cymbals. Well he broke down on the way and someone from the gig had to go and fetch him and the cymbals. By the time they arrived we'd played for over an hour and it was quite good fun playing without them. Adding the cymbals for the second half of the set seemed odd as I'd got used to not having them. So had the audience. You'd think after all that I'd have seen the light and continued playing without cymbals. I haven't. I need to forget them more often I reckon.

When I naively took up the drums I had no cash and knew little.. We had already rehearsed for six months before I could afford my first cymbal, a 22" Crescent ride... We actually scored and had commenced a 4 night a week residency before I could then afford a set of 13" Zildjian Hats... I don't even remember how I got around that... aside from some rim clicking stuff I suppose...

Cheers

John
