A little french story...

Just for the pleasure, a little french story... The "vertical drum kit"...

The 20s & 30s were rich in inventions for the drummer, and for the drum set, then called a "Jazz" in France ...

It's in 1926 that Albert BERGERAULT filed a patent for the invention of a vertical "Jazz" which was a percussion handset playable only with foot. It was destinate to all the musicians that animated the dances of this period ... the idea being that a single instrumentalist (accordionist, violinist, etc ...) can do the show... The vertical Jazz is marketed from 1928...

Here is the patent drawing, a musician's postal card to this period, and an ultra rare piece in a french museum...

Thanks

The original drum machine!

It seems like trying to replace the drummer has been an age old issue...
