I use this Pearl P-85 style strainer for all my re-fits on MIJ snares for two reasons. The first is purely economic. GC, 20 bucks, and it comes with a nice butt plate as well. Second, and most importantly, the thing is a stud! Tough, sturdy, accurate, this is a top notch mechanism. It takes a drill, but when you consider the fact that using the original strainers is just not really a good thing if you have the gumption to actually play one of these snares as a working drum, you need something that is usable. The old originals, most of which are just plain crap, need to b e replaced if the drum was ever played much. If it was not, you can clean the old one and continue to use it, if you dare, until it wears out.

I don't know the number, but it is almost always in stock at my local GC.
