a curiosity ... jogging my memory Last viewed: 1 day ago

Hello folks,

I'm the new guy here, or one of them, and I'm really finding it alot of fun and very informative. I was reading another thread and got wondering about my first kit - for the life of me I cannot recall the brand.

It was likely an Taiwan or RoC made. It had a 20" bass drum, one 12" ride tom (I think) and a 14" floor tom. I don't recall the snare at all. The interiors were luan and were pretty rough as I recall (so probably untreated). I do remember the lugs looking very like Slingerlands. I also recall the bearing edge was pretty round.

The set had a red sparkle wrap that was glued on. If I am remembering correctly the badge was oval or roundish. The ride tom had a "L" type mount that I've seen on alot of import sets.

It started with a "C" if that helps anyone. Any ideas? Thanks alot!!

Go to the (Sticky) at the top of this section, & look under "Japanese Drums", They are listed alphabetically, & it may jog your memory.

Not Coronet, but thank you.

funkypoodle - thanks for that link, but sadly, it didn't jog any memories except that I'm certain it was an oval badge with a black background.

Did Camber ever make drums?

It sounds like it could have been a Star made drum, who had those Slingerland-style lugs.

Check out my website, please:

If it's one of those (Carlton?), it's not MIT or ROC, but MIJ and dates earlier (60's to early 70's).

Hello shortyedwards! Welcome to the place. Have a seat at the bar, order something to wet your whistle and don't dodge the avalanche of information.

Ralf: How's it going, buddy? Who built 'Crest'? I seem to remember seeing an oval badged 'Crest' kit. I've owned a rectangular badged 'Crest' kit as well. I'm thinking it was 'Pearl-ish' though.

I'm sorry but, what and where is a "sticky?"

Started with a "C" with a black badge?......could have been "Crest."

Mine were red pearl. Have not seen that color since I sold mine in "72.

GGD, Go to the main page of the VDF & click on the section, "Vintage Non-USA Drums", Look at the first thread. A Sticky is a permanent thread that does not move.

Maybe a Royce? But Royce isn't in this group.
