** A Big THANK YoU to the Following..Surface & Grantro.. Last viewed: 2 days ago

Please let me share my good times with you all here on VDF.

Last year I came into a set of 1957s Buddy Rich Super Classic

WFL in wmp...

Great drums that I'm keeping, only issue was No Floor Tom

(It's a Porto pak)...

I searched every nite online,...either way2 expensive or missed by an hr.

Until I found a 1962 pre serial Ludwig 15x12 marching snare in WMP.

This would work with my kit after some decent mods were done.

However, it's in Dallas,...I'm in Toronto/Canada.

The seller of this drum, isn't familiar with PayPal/shipping etc.

So I was truly stumped,

Until I figured, well I looked at a cpl drums for some members here b4 they bought them.

So I thought, maybe to list here if anybody is nearby..& could they pickup & pkg to me...?

Well, to my wish, comes 2 members that both worked together for my benefit..

Surface & Grantro,....what a team.

Surface was traveling to Dallas in a cpl days & just asked me for the sellers contact number and address..

He meet up with the seller / paid for it / wrapped it up as nicely as a button & shipped it north to Michigan (on his dime) ...but wait there's more,....the drum once it's converted to a Flr Tom, will need leg mounts & legs,.Surface had the correct set in NOS condition...so he added with the drum when shipped...

Grantro, did something extra special as well,

He picked up & resent it the last leg of its Canadian journey (avoided a lot of time & extra fees)

Also did this on his dime.!

I of course repaid thru PayPal , but I was impressed with the understanding teamwork & Unselfishness of both these 2 gentleman.

I could go on, but I'l need a tissue..lol

Surface, Grantro .....the drum arrived safe n sound last nite.

The wrap fade is a perfect match to the 57 WFLs ...

Here's some pics,...

Also I will update in a few days when it's done & playable..

VDF, you should be proud .....I know I am....to call myself a member.

will somebody pass me a tissue..!

Thank you,

Kelly.

Kelly,

That's a wonderful story. That's what our forum should be about! I don't know Surface but, I know Grantro. Rod is a gentleman who will go out of his way to help a fellow member. He is always positive, helpful and willing to share his vast knowledge. I'm sure that Surface is the same. With people like these aboard, it is no wonder that this is a great forum!

Great story Kelly, I remember the thread about someone picking up a drum for you. Its is such a great thing to be apart of this forum so we can all give and receive but those guys really went out of there way taking valuable time from there day. Reminds me of when Glenn delivered the W&A ( Big Blue) tubs to John, great people on this forum always lending a hand. Congrats on your new drum ( and legs, lol)

Thank you!

Some of the guys on this forum are among the most decent and generous souls you'll ever want to meet. I have always been proud of being a member of this forum. Some seriously good guys here. I'm not surprised. That's how drummers do it!

Way to go boys! :D

John

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
