Just need to be careful on which model you are picking up. Some were pretty good. Some were not that great. Do you have something more for us to go on?

These are VERY nice shells from the Gibson owned Slingerland line of drums. They are modern shells by all comparisons. The toms are 6 ply, bass is 8 ply, and snare is 10 ply. No rerings on any of those. These might have the diecast hoops. If they do, they should also have inlays in the bass hoops. If not, they were the Touring Series branch of the Studio Kings. They would be worth just a gnats hair less. Dang. Nice drums. Seriously nice. These should be mid to late 90's. Please, post some pics. You have stumbled upon a GREAT kit.

No ideas. They don't come up that often for sale. They really didn't make that many of them. Not because they weren't nice...people just didn't buy 'em. When you see one, they are usually priced anywhere between 800-1500...depending on setup and condition. The Touring series was priced slightly less because it didn't have the diecast hoops or the special bass hoop inlays or the fancy schmancy lacquer finishes. They were usually plain jane stained or wrapped. PICS PLEASE!!! we dig 'em.

I do want to add one thing...the fact that the diecast hoops were missing did not take away from the classiness of the other hoops. They were slick with "Slingerland" engraved on 'em. oh so nice.

When they come up for sale they don't last that long.

There's a good reason. They are excellent drums! If you EVER get the chance to sit behind one of those kits, you will immediately recognize the feel and sound. It's that classic, tight, punch and whooooom of the very high end modern shells with outstanding edges. They don't sound like the typical Keller garbage (my thoughts) that everyone and their grandmother's dog are putting out these days. They are of the early early early custom sound. Very nice stuff. I am so ... happy ... for you. You will absolutely LOVE that kit. Such sweet sounds.

Now that I think about it, ... it kind of hearkens back to the 60's Gretsch sound...just a little bit. It's a definite nod to 'em...for sure.

The niles factory where I worked closed in the 80's and it was up for grabs..

I believe the owner had jasper make the shells...They were very good..
