8X15 snare ID help needed Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hi everyone. I have some questions about a drum I salvaged/restored a few years back. I have never actually figured out what exact model this is, and any help would be appreciated. This was my very first project and at the time I didn’t really care what the exact model was, but now it’s really bugging me.

It’s an 8X15 3-ply w/rings and nickel hardware and hoops. It came with a Ludwig script butt plate, but due to the extra holes, I’m not sure it’s original. Shell was bare when I got it, original color was gold sparkle, which is the color I re-wrapped it in. The original wrap was through the shell, so I was able to take a small piece from the interior. There are quite a few extra holes in the strainer/butt sections. No strainer or badge came with the drum. The modern Ludwig strainer fit two of the holes perfectly, so that’s what I put on it – I did not drill any holes anywhere on this drum. Additionally, there is no date stamp.

Please take a look at the pictures, especially the interior “extra holes” shots and see if you can figure out what the heck this beast is, thanks!

Based on the interior I'd say WFL "Festival" or early Ludwig "School Festival". Could be any of the 3 badges "WFL DRUMS", "Transistion" or "keystone" with no serial.

If you wanna get a repro badge google "my old kentucky drums" he has some nice repro badges and they come with grommets. Sometimes you can even get "seconds" on ebay which are way cheap and look just as nice for a vintage drum (imo).

Ok, thanks. I was hoping someone could possibly narrow the model down by deciphering the hole patterns on the interior shots of the strainer and butt plate.
