8o's Pearl Maple shell

Loading...

Hey, I have a set of 80's Pearl maple (made in Japan) shells that I am restoring and I have removed my BT Tom brackets for the opti-mount system and I have purchased the GK-90 masking cover for the holes, what I am wondering if there is any way of filling the holes? instead of using the masking cover ? or will this depreciate these drums?

Brother T,

If you are going to wrap the shells then filling the holes with a wooden dowel cut to the proper depth would certainly work. The Pearl Masking plates are nice and may/not be visible once the optimounts are in place and will vary depending upon the depth of the shell in relation to the original mounting hole.

I can tell you from experience that the drums will really open up with the optimounts as opposed to the old mounting system through the shell.

Be sure to post pictures.

IMO, any time you alter the shell you potentially are reducing the value of the kit. You could just use the masking plate and opti's and eliminate the potential risk of further depreciation.
