There are drums, and there are SONOR,

Should you want, some sizes in SONORLITE, I hear are the Jazz. I think those were late 80`s and have lite weight shellpack and Phonic trim. But very hard to find them for sale.

The big mount is 79+ and the early Centennial series are 79- to Drops. It`s on a few series.

For them, the role is reversed....

Another oddity...the badge is on the underneath side of the bass drum, not the top...Those wacky Germans!!

That`s where they put the 80`s badge with the vent. Not too big a badge for a tom but looks large on a BD, and the toms are smaller....go figure.....

One of the reasons I suggested the D454 was the rounded edges which is a preferred choice for jazz I think.

I have my detectives searching for one as we speak. ..I tried putting a wax rub on the 14 and it did seem to smooth things out a bit. Also, it did not change the color of the wood, which is a good thing..These drums really respond well to Ambs top n bottom. They just sound so sweet and aliveExcited

I would argue that there are no loud drums, just loud drummers.

I use a Ludwig Stainless steel kit, wide open, on a low volume burn gig, with coated and clear single ply heads. We've kept the gig.

Sean Rickman does low volume gigs using an Earth Ride and Zildjian Super Rock sticks (google him - google him for gigs in DC with Fred Pena, and you'll see).

Work on your touch and you'll be fine.

The Phonics are very well made and great sounding drums that will likely hold their value, and will do well in any context.
