From these pictures posted, it looks like Birch to me...

Jeff C, what do you think?

I agree with Bill, birch. I have some 80s Pearl DX Proffesional series drums that have birch shells, really nice. Here is a pic, cant sell them though.

Thanks guys. It's settled then.

JC, your kit looks nice. I can't sell mine either but maybe for different reasons. I can't bare to sell mine - too much good history

Yes, these do look good! As many of you know, I have LONG been a BIG fan of the 70s Pearl, but the more I'm exposed to their early 80s maple (or birch) natural and laquer finishes, the more I'm becoming a BIG fan of them, too!

Just wish they would all become more "sought after" and start bringing better money!

(I'm really NOT a bottom line profit guy, it just seems that way at times!)

Fayray -- Yes, keep those drums. IMO, you'll NEVER regret it. I've had opportunities to sell my 78s, but just couldn't do it -- and have no regrets!

Jeff C -- didn't realize you had a set of these until now... You're about as bad off as me, huh?
