80-90's ludwigs?

Hi.

I know these aint vintage, but Im having a hard time looking for info on these..

found these at a garagesale..

sizes are 13X12, 14X13, 24X16 and a 14X6,5 supra.. all have monroe badge and modular hardware.. 6-ply shells..

The toms have got an ridiculous amount of lugs. 8 per side on the 13" and 10 on the 14".. Does anyone know how many lugs ludwig used on the floor tom during this era?

Anyone got any clue how old these are and what they were called? Would be a great help when Im searching for floor toms for these.

Floor toms also used 8-lugs per side, same as the power toms......look for an ink stamping on the inside....usually 3 digits...it translates to a date. But Monroe 6-ply is usually 1987-mid 1990's

well the 14" power tom's got 10 lugs on each side.. I figured that the floor toms would look funny with 8 lugs on each side when the 14" got more of them.. nevermind..

Yep, 14" and up POWER toms do have the extra lugs as well.......coliseum snares had 12 lugs......the theory was the power drums needed more tuning capability, hence the extra lugs. They considered floor toms as "standard" type toms, so that's why they only have the normal 8-lugs per side.

interesting, since the powertoms are basicly mounted floor toms..

anyways, what were these called? classics? superclassics?

If they are 6-ply they are Classics. If they are 4-ply they are super classics.

Actually, power toms in the large sizes are exactly one inch shallower than regular floor toms.
