I believe Yamaha didn't use the all Birch shell until YD9000.

Interesting;;Anyone thats had the same kit have always claimed these are birch shells.These are grey interior,no re rings,and do appear to be the same spieces.What are you thinking they might be,if not all birch?...thx

I think they are Birth plus cheap woods such as Lauan.

Osakabop may know the truth?

In my knowledge, any Japanese drum makers used cheap woods until YD900 was released.

takauya- your right about this. yamaha changed everything with the 9000

and here is a little known fact yamaha used keller shells to make some of

those 9000's because they had demand and learning curve issues.

they cut the edges themselves after importing the shells. so when

someone gives you the old yamaha story about how great they sounded

just smile knowingly!
