70's vintage tama imperialstar

Loading...

So my dad bought a Tama Imperialstar 5-piece kit back in the 70's, and when i picked up drumming, he gave it to me.

Last week i changed the tom and bass drum heads and noticed that the drums have a really strange inside finish, and i dont know if its wood or what.

Does anyone know the material they used to make these drums?

You are more than likely looking at the ZolaCoat. It's just a goofy paint they sprayed inside to cover up the less than beautiful wood. It's kinda like trunk paint or that stuff that Ludwig used in the 70's...sorta.
