70's ludwig set questions and send your pics

alright guys! i have rattled my brain and looked all over the place i am beginning to think my set may have been changed at one time.

i have a 70's ludwig blue oyster pearl that i have just cleanded up, i set them up and noticed my olive and blue badges dont face the front and my muffler's are in a weird position. my set has two toms and one floor tom. if i get my 13" tom and put it on the left side of my tom mount brackett the badge faces the front and muffler faces me. but when i put my 12" on the left and my 13" on the right everthing is backwards. i looked on the catalog for the 70's big beat set and they looked backwards too. you can see the muffler on the outside and not on the inside. is it normal for the sets to be like that? could my set have been a three pieceset, and some one added the tom mount and a 12" tom? if so did they make tom mounts from the 70's with the 4 hole's and made for one tom?

could you guys please send me any pictures of your ludwig 70's set so i can look at the tom munt.

most (read that word carefully) of the kits sold in the 60s and early 70s were one up kits. when they made toms, they grabbed what was complete. most of them would have been set up for left side mount. if that doesn't sit well, then consider that only the 13 (think super classic kit) would have been the "extra" variable. would you stop production and put a hold on shipping for one drum? neither would they.

correct me if im wrong but im not sure that those drums are blue oyster pearl. i think that ive seen a finish similar to that somewhere being called a bowling ball finish or something like that. there dosent appear to be any pearl-essence whatsoever on those drums.

It's in the Ludwig book listed as Oyster Blue Pearl, "Bowling Ball" is the nickname it was given because of how it looks, lacking the traditional look of Oyster pearls. I'm sure some of the Ludwig guys can add more detail.

Thats rare, wowEye Ball I have that same wrap off a 18" floor tom in 2 pieces if you or anyone else is after some. Neat kit.

wow yes i would love to have some of that wrap, i am working on a project and i need some bad. that wrap is so hard to find. a matter fact i dont think they sell it anywhere. i need enought to wrap an old beat up jazz fest....does anyone know where i can find an old jazz fest shell in good shape?
