From DownTownFarmer

yeah I'd use paint stripper, it's safe. Maybe plug the holes to avoid getting it in the plies..Mitch

Would there be an easier method than shoving dowels in there?

Have made progress and discoveries over the past little bit...

Acetone worked a little too well on the interiors, so I switched over to some pretty old stripper that I had in my paint locker. Results were "meh", so I got after it with the trusty random orbital sander and was going pretty smashingly, until I started in on the kick.

For whatever reason, I started with a hefty dose of the stripper, and instantly realized I wasn't in Kansas anymore. Or maybe it was the fumes?

So, it appears that the kick is something of a unicorn, and was potentially stained at the factory. Not sure how else to explain the quality of it, compared to all of the modifications I continue to uncover. Like a missed install of one of the original spur mounts.

I do believe that the tom interiors are getting either the white, or the granitone finish (undecided as of yet), the 15" is going to be converted into a snare (100% certain), and the kick is going to be restored to as close to the original (interior) finish that I can muster, and then a satin clear coat to seal it up, failed modifications, and repaired alterations showing in all their glory.
