70's Ludwig History Help

Hey All,

I have a 70's 3-ply bass drum that I'm trying to get an idea of value on, and I have some conflicting indicators for getting an age on it. Heres what it is:

1. 22x14

2. White Marine Pearl

3. It's a virgin shell (I assume that it was an add on as a 2nd bass?)

4. Inside is natural with re-rings

5. Blue & Olive Badging

6. Serial 1778347

By the serial guides I've seen, I guess it was made in 1978, but does the natural interior with re-rings conflict with the guides?

It's in amazing condition with original heads. Any idea on value?

thanks,

Mike

Yes the shell and interior treatment is that of the very late 60's and early 70's. Badge is the era that you mentioned. Probably an older inventory shell that they had that got assembled at a later date and got the new badge, especially considering that is a bit uncommon being the virgin shell.

Which version of the WMP is it? The stronger parallelogram pattern was introduced in the 1970s and is most likely to appear on a drum with that high of a serial number.

Collecting information about the following for ongoing research projects:
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72

For what it's worth I had a kit with clear interiors and serials in the 1,6xx,xxx range.

I'll check it out and let you know. I have another WMP kit that is in really rough shape. The wraps on those are almost green. They also have the clear interior finish, but I'm guessing they are the earlier version of the WMP, and my virgin bass is a late 70's badged "NOS" shell.

Thanks all for the info. I appreciate it.
