70's Ludwig floor tom seam repair

Loading...

I picked up this gorgeous SBP Ludwig Floor tom a while back and it's just been sitting around, so I've decided to have a go at fixing the seam. This drum is just about dead-mint with the seam being the only issue of note.

So, I need some advice...

First off, as you can see in the pics, the seam is lifted and has shrunk a bit.

What should I use to get the exposed old glue off of the wrap?

I figure to glue and clamp, but I'm not sure what glue to use, any suggestions?

On wrap jobs I have always used the 3M 30-NF, but I don't think I can seperate the space enough to let both parts dry seperately before adhering.

Any advice would be helpful, thanks in advance!

Going to try a little denatured alcohol to take the old glue off. Just a small spot w/a Q-tip to see what happens.

I think a buddy of mine used Acetone. use the same method, try a little with a q-tip. I think some of the guys here have also mentioned a heat guy to soften the glue enough to lift the wrap

The denatured alcohol is working, but it's extremely labor intensive. I know acetone will work, but I have read conflicting opinions here and I'm not sure I want to risk it.
