70's Ludwig badge question..? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Hi guys!

Have a question about a 76 Ludwig kit I recently purchased. I am guessing it is a 76, as the supra is badged as such, but the rest of the kit is not. It is painted black, but walnut cortex under the paint. At first I thought they were removed for the paint job, but after inspecting them (7 total), I find that the grommets are all tight to the shell....nor any gouges around them as someone would expect from prying them off. I would like to add as we'll, that a few months back, I bought and sold a 20" floor in the same wrap, and also without a badge. Can anyone give me some feedback on this? I find it very odd to think that someone would pry the badges off, and then reseat grommets back on without the badges. Was this an era that they were not installed?

Thanks everyone for their time, and knowledge!

Nevin

It would be very unusual for those drums to have gone out without badges (although one should never say "never" with Ludwig). My guess is someone ripped the badges off without disturbing the grommets. The badges were a thin aluminum and you could tear them apart easily enough if you really wanted to, for example if they were in the way for a spiffy new paint job.

I've seen plenty of drums where someone has removed the badge (for whatever reason) without disturbing the grommet. It can be done if you don't mind destroying the badge in the process.
