'69 Supra throw?

Loading...

My '69 Supra has a P-85 throw. Shouldn't it be a P-83? Are they interchangeable?

Thanks.

Thanks very much for the reply. It's a Keystone Badge #556390 with a baseball bat muffler. Would that make any difference? I really want the right strainer on the drum.

Your badge states it is a 68, so the P-83 is the correct strainer.

Thanks Nevin. Looks like I'm in the market for a P-83.

Much appreciated.

Is the P-85 a modern one (all silver and designed for a strap not strings?)

or a Blackface with 2 holes (later than the 12 hole version)

or a Blackface with 12 holes (the earliest after P-83)?

A Blackface 12 hole for reference:

If it is a modern one then the original P-83 was probably replaced because it was damaged or not working very well. If it is a 12 hole Blackface, that becomes more interesting in terms of anomalies.

Last, but not least: does your snare have a date stamp inside? Anything else which would give a crosscheck on date?

Thanks for the reply. It's a blackface, but only has two holes for string. No way to use a strap. I'm guessing it's from the '70s. Bottom line, it should have a P-83, so I'm going to try to recoup the money to buy one.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the info. When you sell the P-85 Blackface two hole, make sure you identify it as such. Somebody else may be looking for just that strainer to make their own snare all period authentic.
