WOW! Nice find, great price! Congrats!

Nice looking kit, and from the sounds of it there is no reason whatsover to find the configuration of 20,12,13,16 something to have given you concern. Ludwig built a boatload of kits in that configuration, as did all the other manufacturers. It's simply a Hollywood kit with a 20" bass. Someone pegged them and around 69, and that seems correct given the wind-up mufflers we could see in the original pictures you uploaded and the serial numbers from that era too.
To find a Black oyster kit in that condition for under $2000 in Canada is rare. ($1600 CAN = $1425 US). If you would have bought that kit on ebay and it came from the States you would be looking at 13% sales tax + customs fee + $200 US shipping.
You got a heck of a deal, congrats and enjoy your kit.

Yeah I'm just thrilled with them....especially the price. I've just started to clean them up and upon doing so I realized that they really don't need it. Just a wipe over with a bit of windex on the hoops and wrap and they look brilliant.
I'm attaching some larger pics so you can see the condition they are in.
Thanks for all the comments folks.

Very Nice! I also have a set of Legacys and am wondering how the 2 sets compare soundwise. Any thoughts you want to share?
Congrats. That kit is a heart stopper. Nothing like walking into a venue and seeing the black oysters. Definitely a mojo unlike any other.

To be honest I haven't played them yet! we manage a small apartment building here in town, and I'm relegated to doing any drumming on my Roland e drums. Can't play the acoustic kits here because of the noise.
In just replacing the heads and doing a bit of low volume tuning, the shells do seem very very resonant. Definately got that early Ringo sound to them.
The Legacy kit is a phenominal set of drums, but again my initial thoughts are that these are going to be more of a lively sound. Mind you, the kick and rack tom sizes are different, so may come into play.
I guess the Legacy is maybe a bit more "controlled" than the vintage?
I'm rehearsing this coming Friday so I'll definately give them a good try-out then!
Cheers, Phil
