'67 Slingerland Sound King

Loading...

I finally took my Slingerland Sound King out of the closet to take apart, clean up and tune. Like the way it came out, but noticed a few things I didn't when dirty....like a couple of deeper scratches and two tiny dents. Other than those, would put it somewhere around excellent condition, but far from collectable.

With a 131xxx number, figure its around '67-'68, so the muffler knob is incorrect...have to get small knob if possible or just pick up an earlier muffler. Also, though haven't checked yet, pretty sure the hoops are supposed to be COB and not COS...changed over around '72.

I think the snare is original Slingy, but the heads were changed before I got it.

Anyway, here it is!

It's a beautiful drum! I recently bought an NOS 3-line deep-dish brass Slingy shell that I made into a killer snare. Those old Slingy metal shells make for GREAT sounding drums.

Enjoy,

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Thanks guys! I'm happy with the way it turned out, a little bummed about some of the scratches and that I can't get them out CryBaby, but overall seems to be a nice solid snare.Cool1

I left on the batter head that came with it, pretty beat up but sounds good! I have a new Aquarian batter downstairs (somewhere) and wondered if that is a good head for a SK? Any thoughts?

Thanks very much.:D

Hey Vipuronr that's a great looking Sling! It just so happens that I just picked up a Sling for $25 in a garage sale a week ago and am currently "making it whole again"!!!

I estimate its' age between 1965 - 1975. Serial no.# inside the lugs was 741270/8/9. That being said, it looks very similar to yours in many ways.

I would be interested in seeing more of your Sling from other sides particularily the "butt" side of the snare mechanism as mine has a funny little hook on it. (???)

All the Best

Here's one shot of the butt side of the SK, not sure whether this was at the finished stage or somewhere in between but let me know if this helps!
