'66 Ludwig Club Date Bop Kit Value?

Loading...

From johnnyringo

I've never seen a Club Date with an 18" kick, may be a rare kit.

Are you positive of the sizes? the 18'' bass drum is a really big deal?

I'm kicking myself for not measuring when I was visiting yesterday. Could my eyes be playing tricks on me? Maybe black makes everything look smaller...

The owner of the drums is laid up with a nasty knee injury so it may take some time to get a tape measure on the kit. Ugh. Stay tuned...

It looks like a 20" to me, there is a huge difference in price between the 18" and 20". I hope it is an 18". thanks

Would be a game changer if an 18. I sold my Ludwig Black Lacquer 20/12/14 with matching snare for $1200 IIRC. The kit in question looks super nice from what I can see.

I'd figure hardware for $150 or so.

A little video of a 67 Club Date in action I caught on YouTube. Nice drumming and great sound -

I'm trying to keep life simple. Although not a collector by any measure, I have too many drum sets (2) and way too many cymbals. Need to thin the herd before anything new is considered.

You have two drumsets and you think that's too many? Can I tell you about a conversation I had last year with a music store owner in the Midwest? I've told this before, but in this case, it bears repeating.

I found a nice blue agate Slingerland set online that I liked and called the music store selling it. The owner told me it was a consignment from one of this best customers. The guy owned 125 drumsets. I was aghast. 125 sets!! How does he store all those drums? I'd have to buy another house!

He told me the customer and his girlfriend owned a duplex house and he stored his collection on the other side of the duplex instead of renting it out. They were financially comfortable and didn't need the rent money.

Just for the record, that Club Date set is probably in the area of $1200 or so and maybe more, considering the 18" bass drum. Vintage Club Dates are very desirable these days, and that's a beautiful set, but like you, I wouldn't be interested in them either. Not the correct sizes for me.

That looks like a beautiful set but I'm willing to bet that the bass drum is a 20". I have never seen an 18" club date bass drum and I have seen thousands of old Ludwig drums. Anything is possible though Ludwig could have easily made one. I'm interested to see what the answer is.

Heck I’ll make a offer

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Even if it's a 20, it looks like a nice kit....BUT ...IF it IS an 18 and the drums are matched, then it would be quite a rarity...an exception, if you will. Not sure how to gauge the value of it...other than to assume it would be quite a bit more valuable with an 18. Maybe it would then become a "JazzDate" ....or possibly a "Clubette"LOL!
