My gold downbeat is a very nice kit, I have had a lot of 12's from clubbys etc and they all sound sweet but this one has issues I'll start with heads and see what's up its missing muffler but that does not affect tune. I lol inspect edges next hope there ok

Also, check the rims. Flip them over on a flat surface to make sure they're not bent. If the shell is in round, the bearing edges are smooth, the rims may be the issue.
I've messed with some toms for half an hour before it hit the Sweet spot. Less than 1/4 turn on one lug and bam! There it is! Go figure.

Most likely with that Tom drum from that time period...
You will need to have to see if both the top & bottom lay flat.!
If not, have it sanding dwn an 1/8" or so...But most importantly ...have the edges redone.
This is after you've checked all the easy stuff..I.e. in round, hoops are good etc..
I wouldn't bother 2much with skins,unless uhave them laying around.(It's just an extra cost)
