'60s Zildjians?

Hi all,

Is it for sure that all 1960s Zildjian logos were 1 1/2 inches tall and that the three dots had to be inside the "U" shaped Arabic symbol?

I ask because I just received a set of 14" hi hats that were advertised as vintage '60s, but the logos on both are 1 1/4 tall and one of them is lacking the three dots in the U. (Interestingly, one of the cymbals was double stamped, with the logos about two inches apart from one another.)

Before getting in touch with the seller, however, I figured I'd better confirm whether what I've been reading about identifying '60s cymbals by the 1 1/2 height and the three dots in the U is always the case or if there were exceptions.

60s had both 1 1/2" AND 1 1/4" stamps. But, if there are no dots in the U, then it's either a 50s stamp or a 70s stamp, which you can tell from the relative thickness of the font for the word "Zildjian" compared to the words "Genuine Turkish Cymbals". 50s stamps have a noticeably thicker font for the word "Zildjian".

Thanks for your post.

The one with the three dots (they are very faint) has a thicker font for Zildjian. It's very lightly stamped and does not appear to be the hollow font of the '50s or '70s.

The one without the dots has the same font on both Avedis and Zildjian and it's pretty thin. I'm thinking this is a '70s stamp. I'll try to post some shots tomorrow to see if people concur.

Definitely 70s. Those 70s pies usually don't sound bad. Not as sweet as the 50s pies, of course, but definitely better than the 80s to the present cymbals, in my opinion...

Ended up sending them back. I hate paying shipping costs, but at least the seller was nice about it.

Regarding '60s Zildjians, I've seen several references to early versus late decade. Is there a way to tell the difference from the logo? Is the 1 1/4 height indicative of early '60s and the 1 1/2 late '60s or vice versa?

At any rate, if anyone has the following for sale, feel free to give me a PM with prices.

Early '60s Zildjians in very good to excellent condition (no cracks, chips or dents; no/minimal keyholing)

14” thin hi hats (bottom only slightly heavier than top)

18” medium thin crash

20” medium ride
