60's Yamaha kit will be for sale

Loading...

I have a 60's Yamaha kit in (maybe) Red Thunder. 12x8,14x14,14x20,14x5. I can't seem to get pictures to upload. When I can I'll post them but in the meantime what can you tell me about this series and basic value? I'm going to sell them or trade them. Sorry about the picture issue.

I think, this is a picture of the kit. Had to re-size pics.

Here are some more pictures. Spurs not original. 3 or 4 non-orig Ts and claws. Missing butt plate part and screws. some rust, some dings and dirt but no splits or cracks in wrap. Bottom seam loose on BD. This kit has been played but not abused. Probably never saw cases if ever taken out of the house. Whats the history of this series of Yamaha drums? Beginner kit I'd guess because all drums have 6 lugs per side.

I think those are mid 70's. Yamaha just started in 1967 so pretty much late 60's is as early as they get.

I need a close up of the badge but based on the steel bass hoops it is mid 70's.

Those sizes mean that the kit is the model C200 from the '68-'69 brochure.

Not so much a beginner kit as just the first kits that Yamaha put out

(The C220 kit in the same brochure has 13" & 16" toms) else the same).

Cheers

John

Those look really nice.

The catalog scans from 1969 are found here:

http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/yamaha_catalogs_drum_sets_1969.htm

on our sister site VintageDrumGuide. And yes, as longjohn mentioned that fits the C200 sizes. I've got an orphan 13" tom in the Yellow Dragon version (presumably from a C220 or similar).

Don't be fooled into thinking those are "beginner drums" just because they have 6 lugs a side. The shells are good quality, and they sound just fine. The whole "more lugs = better quality" marketing thing came later on.

Thanks for the info. They do seem better built than the other MIJ kits I have seen. Now, if I can just find somebody who wants them. I don't have room to start adding Yamaha kits to my collection.

Nice drums, its likely that they are a bit of a tough sell because their sister set, the Golden Dragons are soooooo nice.
