'60s Super Classic - ?

Loading...

I've been looking for a '60s BDP Super Classic snare to match my kit for quite some time. One has turned-up on ebay, but I'm bothered by a couple of things. It's being sold by Lee County Music, whom I've heard less than stellar things about. Also, it has a throw and butt that both read WFL, yet the badge is a regular old Ludwig KB from the time. Didn't they change from WFL back to Ludwig in the late '50s? I might just pay the Devil if this drum is legit. It's not kosher to post ebay links (per Tommyp), but if you search ebay for Ludwig Super Classic snare, you'll scroll down to it.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Best.

it is not unusual to wfl strainer parts and butts on pre serial, early 60's drums. no worries there at all. they simply used what wfl inventory that was left over.

Stephen,

As the saying goes, "patience is a virtue." Paying that price for that particular snare would not be a choice that I'd make. I base this statement on historical prices paid for the same or similar snares as well as on the specific seller. Then again, it's just my personal opinion. Unless I had an immediate need, I'd hang in there for a while. Good luck in whatever you decide to do!

Thanks for that input guys. That IS pricey. What do you think one is worth?

Best.

for some reasons, the super classics don't bring as much as the jazz festivals. they sound very much alike and are actually very much alike. there was a wmp model on ebay yesterday that had a 275 buy it now. someone bid on it and knocked the bin out.

I see the last BDP Super Classic snare went for $400 (how did I miss it?), which is quite a bit lower than the other asking price. Guess I'll be patient; there's no immediate hurry.

Thanks again.
