60's Rogers Holiday Buddy kit

Loading...

I got a great deal on this kit...Rogers Holiday 24-13-16, cob dyna, bunch of cymbals stands, and a matching Rogers R-360 16" floor tom.

Looking forward to doing a thorough cleaning and polishing job.

What I'm wondering is, what should I do with the R-360 tom? The wrap and fade match the others EXACTLY, so I thought I could use it's wrap as a donor to wrap another matching 16 for a real Buddy setup. OR, I could use it to wrap a fake wood dyna shell, and have a matching snare. If I did this than I could just keep my eyes out for a matching 16 on ebay, though I know that's a tough one with WMP.

Hoping one of the buddy fans (Tommy?) will chime in here.

Great drums. Lovely Color. Its certainly on my List.

Heres what I would do. ... Nothing at the moment. If you want to play two 16s....... you certainly can with little trouble here. Your second 16 will certainly tune differently than the USA Rogers. Probably will be a bit lower and darker at the same tension and head. Fade is an incredably fickle demon in WMP. You have relatively great matching fade. And for that reason, untill you find a matching 16 or miracle of miracles an 18 (if that interests you at all), I would leave it alone for now. Go ahead with the build on your Dyna clone, set yourself a time frame, and once you reach that timeframe of wait, git er done. If you find one...go for it. If you dont, proceed.

mlvibes!...

I usually abhor chiming in on a thread to restate what someone has already said... ( the practice gives me hives! ) ... but in this case I feel I must make an exception as my entire collection of Rogers drums are ALL in WMP... well, excepting COB where applicable of course!... and both my Rogers kits are Buddy Rich models... so I know the wrap very well. Having said that:

First off: NICE FIND!! They look excellent with a NICE creamy fade to them and not that hideous "smoker's tooth yellow". Because of this type fade, you will certainly be able to find a matching candidate eventually... the key word being eventually. When the time comes, you need to see the potential 2nd 16X16 in NATURAL LIGHT, NO FLASH, to compare it to your existing one. It can be done with great success! Until then,

Ploughman has it right, you should hang tight... clean... polish ... tune ... ENJOY!!! And YES!... the nicely matching wrap off the R-360 16X16 would make for an excellent clone of a Dynasonic. Now THAT would be slick!! NICE FIND!!! Got Rogers?!

Thanks everyone! Kind of echoed my thoughts about it. I just took a quick shot outside, and these things are WHITE, especially compared to Rogers I've had in the past. And that's before cleaning the layer of dirt off! Very excited about cleaning these babies!

The kit is done! They cleaned up nicely...

I found a picture of Buddy playing a COB dyna...so that's enough for me...I decided to scratch the fake wood dyna idea. I ended up turning the R-380 into a Rogers clone with some hardware I had...the holes lined up exactly. Can you tell which one is the real Rogers floor tom? The US built and Yamaha built 16x16's provide a nice contrast to each other.

Here's some before and after shots:
