60's Premier drums

Loading...

I recently picked up a set of early 60's red marine pearl Premier drums. I bought new heads for them not realizing they are metric. I was told to contact Remo. I emailed customer service twice and never got a response. Is there somewhere else I can get 12, 16, and 20" heads to fit this kit?

As far as I know, Remo is the only company still making heads in the "pre-international" sizes for Premier drums. Any music store that sells Remo heads should be able to special order them for you. Remo is a little slow to respond to direct correspondence so be patient with them.....

Only the toms should be metric, the bass drum should fit a regular 20" head. You can order the heads through a Guitar Center, just make sure to have the part numbers handy, since many GC employees will have no clue what you're talking about: BA-0112-PR and BA-0116-PR. Also, be prepared to wait at least 3 months for them to come in!

A penchant for understatement.....you may never hear back from them.

As suggested, do it thru a certified Remo dealer...it'll be faster. I think they can actually arrange to have the heads drop-shipped directly to you (as opposed to Remo shipping to the dealer, than the dealer to you).

Yes, I think only...what ?...12's, 13's, 14's were metric...didn't know that 16's were, too ....

You could also try Rupps or Cascio....those guys are good to work with and may be able to get a better lead time...[/COLOR]

From the 60's only 12 and 16's were metric. The rest is standard.

Premier didn't make 13's in the 60's and 14's take standard heads since the 30's.

Thanks for all the info. The 12" and 16" are definitely metric. (a 12" head won't nest inside the hoop and a 16" head will not fit over the shell) The 20" is questionable. The head seems too large for the hoop. The 14" snare is standard. Where did you get these part #s from? (BA-0112-PR and BA-0116-PR) and what type of heads are they?
