60s Leedy Kit - Appraising Help!

Loading...

Alrighty so here's my story. I obtained this Leedy kit when I was about 4 years old (I'm now 21). Basically what happened was way back in the day, my dad was jamming with this guy who left his drum kit and never came back for it?!? (weird I know) Well it sat in my grandparent's house for 15 years or so until I came along and they said I can have it. So I've had it ever since.

We'll I became a guitar player. I dable at the drums but I'm much better at playing guitar so I'm looking to sell this kit. I did some research and tried to find out what it's worth but couldn't get a real value. I'm hoping to sell it and get myself a beginner kit to bang around on because I'm not the right person to fully appreciate a vintage kit like this. I don't know a whole lot about drums so bare with me if I get a few of the terms wrong and such. So here it is:

4-piece Leedy Kit (early 60s I believe)

Snare: 14 x 5 1/2

Mounted Tom: 12 x 8

Floor Tom: 14 x 14

Bass: 20 x 14

Badge:

Full Kit: (My drummer gave me the heads cause they came free with his new kit and he didn't like them, they need to be changed...haha)

The bass drum hoop is a little banged up, you can see it here

More pics:

You can see here where the mount for the cymbal stand is missing. It broke off, but didn't really damage the shell.

Here you can see the bass drum hoop marks a lot better:

Here you can see the slight discoloration on all the metal hardware. The pics kinda make it look worse than it is. I think a good restoration can fix that. I dunno.

The last of my pics:

The inside of the snare. Marked Dec 05 and a P?

Floor Tom

Floor Tom hardware

On floor tom foot is missing the little push button to adjust it. It still works and hold the legs but if you want to adjust it you have to use a pen or something to push it in.

Well that's all my pics. The shells are all in great shape and the wrap on the shells all are very nice. Just the hoops need some restoration and maybe a few other things you can tell by the pictures.

Thanks for any help you can give me guys!!

Very nice kit, jazz sizes and very desirable. Badges put them around 57-58. Needs some cleaning, if all shells are good, from what I see they are, and that might be a single ply snare shell. Being jazz kit sizes, easily 700-800. If you are in California, I would be interested in them.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Nope I'm in the Chicago area. :( I'm hoping I can get close to a grand for them because my goal is to sell it to someone who will appreciate them, then I'd like to use the money to get myself a kit so I can still play. And for a basic set of ok shells, some cymbals and hardware, upper hundreds should do me. But if there is anyone in the area, we can possibly work something out to sell them.
