60's Clubdate spurs for Orphan Kit

Hello all, new to this board but not the audio engineer/gear forum world so greetingsBowing

Wanted to kick things off here and show some recent acquisitions of mine; with questions of course! Basically I'm putting together an orphan sparkle kit.

I got this for 200 off craigs; not too bad considering he was asking in the 300's but not the biggest score of the century either and no consolette but I wouldn't use that regardless... -anyway the photo's he took made it appear like a Gold Sparkle wrap so imagine my surprise when we meetup and I realized it was actually a champagne sparkle!Jump For Joy

Wanted to keep em all around the same periodish primary with the ply's... as you can see the GS is a little younger than the others sporting the granitone interior and pointed olive badge. Maybe I'll try to acquire a complete matching set tomwise down the line but this will do for the studio for now- and I'm not sure I'd even like the 14" tom anyways but I digress.....

Anyway back to the virgin kick... In pretty good condition on the inside & out and original hardware minus the cymbal stand on the kick ( repro) however the only thing missing is the spurs. I see a pair on fleabay for a buy it now of 50,but I don't wanna pay that piper. Are there any cheaper non vintage alternatives? The danmar's 10.5 vintage spurs certainly won't work. maybe someone has spares and can hook it up or point me in the right direction!?

Welcome!

That bass drum appears to be a '64 model. However, it has the spurs that were used by WFL in the late 50's and on some Ludwig drums into the early to mid 60's. The latest that I have seen them used is on another '64 22" Club Date bass drum that I own. Is yours also a natural maple interior on the bass? Back to the spurs...The common 60's gullwing spurs mount in a bracket configure like your cymbal mount. So the ones that you have are more uncommon. Just be aware of this when trying to find the right ones. I cannot recall if the spur part only is different between the two types. I'll go check one of mine now and report back.

Here is an auction showing what you have/need. The spurs from the more common design may or may not work with your mounts. It's hard to say. The are definitely different. Yours are much shorter going into the mounts and are not knurled like the others.

Hey Mike! Thanks for the links and info and no it doesn't have the maple natural finish inside as it's painted white.

Glad to help. Most '64 drums have the white resacote interiors. My '64 just happened to have the same natural maple interior as my '61 of the same. These 22" Club Date bass drums sound huge! Good luck and enjoy yours!

One more question, I wanna fill the consollete drill holes with the necessary screws/lug. What size hardware am I looking at here?

Someone will know for sure. I've done a few and used the button heads bolts (until I found a rail). There is an exact name that escapes me at the moment.

I like the center mount rails on Club Date drums. But on the 22" with a 13", that drum is up higher than I like to play. On my '61 it uses the hoop mounted tom holder and can be put into a better position for me anyway.

See if I can find a couple pics of my 22" CLub Date bass drums..
