I've seen hoop mounted spurs on bass drums, but I've never seen them drilled through the hoop (they're usually clip-on). I don't think they're original or that they would be very stable. The "handle" on the bass drums also looks after-market. My guess is that these were originally duco painted, and that a previous owner stripped the paint and left them natural maple. Not original, then, but nice 3-ply shells so they probably sound great. Enjoy. If you're looking for a value, I'de guess its not that high because of all the alterations and the single-tension bass drum and the claws on the snare. For those reasons they won't appeal to collectors. My guess is they could go for a few hundred for the pair on ebay.
actually i have not seen them till the guy who replied before you said that he had them on his 41 wfl ludwigs. So i looked at some of the pictures on this website of some drums from that era and they did have a picture of the spurs drilled through the hoop. i'm not sure about the finish because all the
screws and everything seem to be untouched and original on the inside.
they are drums from the depression "the swing era" .which i believe was the reason for the cheaper hardwear.
