50's Slingerland Tom Advice

From nailfoxx

I know during any year of the 1950's catalogs, you had a variety of drum outfits to choose from. My question, is besides hardware, were there any differences in the shells?I am trying to put together a 1950's Radio King kit, and found a guy selling a 50's RK 13" tom. The price seems a little high, however I am seeing some toms on Ebay that state they are from the 50's (some have stamps). I am wondering that if I were to pick up one of these other toms for less, and then change the rims and lug casings...would it be the same as an RK kit?Any advice, suggestions, and whatnot would be appreciated!-Kevin

It would be easier and cheaper to find a kit that came together, and the re-sale would be much higher.

For that great Radio King sound, you can often find late '50s sets at a reasonable price.

The easiest drum to find is a 9 x 13, so by all means don't "start" there. Floor toms are hard to find and can sometimes cost as much as a whole set...

I was under the impression that if it is a 3 ply tom or bass shell with the interior ply being mahogany then,it's a Radio King. Also, does the tom in question have an air vent and badge? I believe the Radio Kings did not but,not certain about a mid 50's version.
