50s slingerland snare

Loading...

Was it unusual that muflers were not installed on snare drums?

Would it hurt the value of the drum if one is installed with the corect vintage muffler?

Thanks

Somewhat out of the ordinary, yes.

The internal tone control was generally

considered a sales gimmick. They were

seldom effective and would often rattle

or buzz.

Most players ultimately removed them.

( Much like the "ashtray" bridge cover

on a Tele or Strat )

My '64 Hollywood Ace doesn't have one

and it is by no means a "Monday drum".

Likely a custom order which was easy to do

back in the day.

To find a proper specimen will be costly, unneccesary

and as an after factory add-on detrimental to the

value to collectors.

This gang is pretty hardcore about that...

Love to see some pics!
