50's 15" China

Loading...

This is a 15" China from the 50's. Very crisp, trashy sound without all the excess ring. Very interesting chinese markings on both sides of the cymbals, but haven't found anyone who knew about them particularly.

As you see, there is a chip in the side of the china, from what I have seen in videos, this is quite common. Also, the rough hole in the bell. Upon examination, the original hole would have been too small for any cymbal stand (vintage or new) to mount it. I think the previous owner did it, just to be able to use it. It is has been there since I bought it, and I have never had an issue, nor has it expanded.

I took it to a shop. They seemed to think that this was an early hand-made cymbal from China. Probably on the same level that Dream cymbals are today.

Not really sure what to ask for this cymbal. Please email me with offers, all will be considered. If you read my Zildjian crash thread, I am just wanting to clear some room, and let people enjoy these pieces.

Thanks,

Kevin

I'd guess the cymbal is earlier than the '50s...usually those were on drum sets from the '20s and '30s...by the '50s, most folks were using Zildjians and Chinese cymbals were out of favor.

Chinese cymbals in that size with cracks are pretty plentiful...often free.

I'd take whatever anyone was willing to offer for it (if I had that to sell...)

Sometimes the larger vintage Chinese cymbals (18"+) bring some coin..

Thanks Rich,

When I took it to the shop, the guys there were more interested in this china than any of the other pieces I had with me (22" Sabian HHX jazz ride, Meinl Light Jazz ride, and more). And no, they weren't all chipped haha.

Yeah, like I said if anyone is looking for a an inexpensive china to have that sounds pretty decent, they should message or email me.

Thanks for the input, didn't know that I might have owned a cymbal that age!
