49 - 51 WFL question

So some of you may have seen this kit on ebay last month. I won it. Turned out to be much nicer than I expected. Mostly just 60 years of grime. One owner ALL original! Been sitting since late 50's! Cleaned up very nice except for the slight yellowing. Nickle is really nice. Anyway, I've been trying to date it based on the hardware through the Ludwig Book. This kit has 2 brackets on both sides of the bass drum. I'm guessing they are for cymbal arms?? But they are slightly canted outward, so the arms would not be pointed straight up. It is almost done, just gotta finish up the bass drum hoops. Here is how it was, and how it sits now.

Here are a couple of pics of the bracket in question.

That's a nice set. Beautiful. That snare drum is killing me. Love it!

I had this same snare. The day I shipped that one out to the buyer, this kit showed up at my door. The snare was the main reason I bought it. It really cleaned up nice. Hard to tell by pics. In the oe pic of the bass drum, you can see the reflection of the remo box in the wrap. Pretty shiny!

Wow, that kit cleaned up great! I actually like the slightly yellowed (mellowed) WMP. Great find. Always nice when things turn out to be better than we thought. I've had some turn out better...some worse.

Thats a nice set and that snare drum is killer, but that awful yellowing would drive me batty. I just cant stand that.

If you hit all the shells with Novus polish, you may get some of the yellow out.

Already hit them with all 3 Novus polishes. They were really nasty when I got them. They are very clean, slick and shiney now.....just a bit yellow. Some like, some don't. I don't mind it unless you are doing a museum quality resto.

I for one don't like the yellowing, but what can you do?

People smoked like chimneys back in the day in bars where these were played......

There is something magical about this period of WFL....

Super nice set/restore job!Bowing

Great job! Looks AWESOME! I for one love the slightly yellowed WMP.

I have the same era WFL kit. Same finish. Maybe a little less fade. Im looking for a 16 inch floor tom. Been looking for a while now. Will be looking for some time Im sure. Right now I have a 64 Ludwig 18 fillin in. You are so lucky that you have a complete set up! Enjoy it!
