3pc 1965 Rogers Tower/Luxor (Comet)

Loading...

Offering this 1965 Blue Sparkle Pearl 3pc kit. This is likely the "Comet" as seen in the 1964 catalog.

Serials date this to 1965. Made in Cleveland.

13in Tower tom - Serial 7135

22in (10 lug) Tower BD - Serial 7121

14in (6 lug) Luxor Snare - Serial 7834 - original wires included

This is an Estate find. I suspect the original owner was the (passing) drummer leaving the estate, as the original Rogers heads were (are) still on it.

Popping her open was like one of those factory-air experiences, as I do not believe the heads had been off since 1965. (Original?) felts are included on the BD heads.

Drummers differ in terms of what constitutes "Collector" condition. I consider this to be one of those cases - though I will disclose the following:

1)There is some snare rash on the tom - pic included. I tried to 'fix' it, but stopped short considering that there are several ways to fix it - and I will not be the next/long term owner. I wet sanded it, then tried several plastic polishes (including Maquire's Mirror Gaze) to no avail. The worse spot of it goes all the way through to the wood - thus requiring some blue coloring. That is why I halted my fix - several different ways to color it in. I was even tempted to fill the rash in with clear fingernail polish - now it is a suggestion.

2) There is some light pitting on the BD leg mounts.

3) There is some light pitting on a handful of the lugs.

4) The tilter on the cymbal arm might be missing a part or something. Felts and washers are missing, but the tilter does not seem to mount tight - or I just do not know how it is supposed to work. At least the tilter is there with it!

That's about it that I can recall. Some light wear on the BD hoops, as seen in the pics.

** Included in the deal will be the - Part 399 - Jet foot pedal - but it is missing a piece. Also, I stole some set screws off of it to use on the tom mount.

**Included in the deal is the cowbell holder - Part 4656 - which clamps onto the BD hoop.

**Included in the deal will be the brushes - Part 945 - (I assume these brushes are Rogers that came with the kit.).

Note: Snare stand is NOT included.

I will be posting alot of pics for this offering. The biggest reason is that I missed the sunshine. If I would have finished it up even 30 minutes earlier - I would have better pics. I will shoot more pics tomorrow and add them. Indeed if you would like more pics - just ask.

Asking $700 plus actual shipping from 49285. Paypal please. SOLD!!

This is a 22incher - so I suggest using Greyhound - as it is a REALLY good deal. I have used it before and it just requires me to drop it off at the station (about an hour away for me) and will require the buyer to pick it up at their local station. If Greyhound is used and I have to drop it off at the station (an hour away), I will ask for $15 for gas and time/hassle. As a patter of fact, I work 10 hr days 6 days/week, so I would even have to have my brother drop it off there. Timing of shipping is subject to his work schedule - he goes to Ann Arbor at least once a week. I would like to at least cover his gas money. That being said - I still believe it would be much less expensive than the other carriers. (you'll see). Now - I will send it anyway you would like - just know that you have to pay actual shipping expenses. I still have not figured out the best way to send kits with 22s - or at least do not remember. Insurance for the sale price will be required, regardless of buyers request.

I am not a fan of blue sparkle. However, this one looks so good I am wondering if it glass glitter. Pics just does not do sparkles any justice (must see to appreciate).

Meanwhile - I can now say, with first hand experience, that I understand why Rogers is considered the Cadillac of Vintage drums. There really is no other drum that matches the attention to detail and robust quality. The edges were pretty much the best vintage edges I have ever seen. The shells are super solid - with clear resonance, and the wrap is tight as that day in 1965.

Please see DFO for more pics.

Nice looking set-up. Not sure, but it might be the first Tower 14x22 I've seen. Nice capture, and good luck with the sale.
