30s/40s WFL 16x14 Floor Tom in WMP - Conversion!

Loading...

This drum is really clean; all pics here: http://s174.photobucket.com/user/emptyground/library/16x14%20WFL%20WMP?sort=3&page=1

30s or 40s vintage?

I bought this to use as a bass drum and did so very briefly; it's pretty much been sitting around in a case for the last year+. Sound is gorgeous warm and mellow.

There are no extra holes! The conversion was accomplished via a Gibraltar riser, Danmar hoop spurs, WFL/Ludwig claws, and a set of Radio King wood hoops with matching WMP inlay.

I have close to $500 into all of this. Asking $400 plus ship for everything. Will break apart components only if the drum sells alone first. Price for the drum alone is $300 plus ship.

Any questions?

Thanks!

Barry

Did you try the Leedy Facebook page? Might have some luck over there. It is a gorgeous drum.

This is gorgeous! Nice idea and good work. Out of interest, where is the badge located?

No badge that I'm aware of. Someone else had inquired about that but I have no idea what the story is...I don't see any extra holes so I assume it never had one put on or..??

May have never had one. Up until 1966 Slingerland ( and Slingerland made Leedy drums ) only had a badge on the bass drum. They didn't even have a grommet hole. Not sure if this applies to other companies. But it wouldn't surprise me.

Thanks Arch. I think this is 30s/40s. I have a matching 12" and just noticed there is a chewed up company sticker on it so that must be what was once on this 16".

The reason behind getting the 16" was to build a kit with the 12"...but finding a matching 12x14??!!! I've given up.

I know this thread is pretty old - I found it by accident on google images.

Did you ever end up selling this? I'm very interested - I have a matching 12" too. :)
